This section is to help you find out about the financial (money) side of the options and choices open to you.
1. Child Benefit - this is paid to parents/carers if you are in full time education and studying up to level 3 i.e. A levels, AS/A2 levels, VRQ level 3, VCE AS/A2 levels and NVQ level 3 advanced, until you are 19 years of age.
2. Courses Fees - If you are under 19 and are attending a further education course at a local sixth form or college you will not usually pay course fees. Some courses may have a small registration fee and students who turn 19 whilst on their course may have to pay some tuition fees.
3. Travel Expenses - In County Durham all students aged 16-19 years, you will be entitled to receive a part contribution towards travel costs if they are eligible and they live more than 2 miles away.
4. Care to Learn - Care to Learn is a financial support scheme to meet childcare and additional travel costs of young parents.
5. Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) - An EMA is extra money to help you stay in education after Year 11.
6. Learner Support Funds/Access Funds - Colleges of further education have their own 'learner support funds'. They might be called 'further education access funds'. These are funds to support young people experiencing financial difficulties during their course. This support can help to provide money to cover the cost of books, equipment and other items.
7. Adult Learning Grant (ALG) - The Adult Learning Grant (ALG) is an allowance of up to £30 per week to adult residents in England, who are studying full time for a first full level 2 or level 3 qualification.
