Your Qualifications / 6. Btecs

► BTECs

BTECs (Level 1-3)  give you an understanding of the knowledge and skills required for a broad work area such as Information Technology, Health and Social Care or Sport and Exercise.

There are 3 levels:

Introductory -  (level 1)  taken in school alongside GCSEs in years 10 and 11.  They can take 1-2 years to complete.

First - (level 2) taken in sixth form or college at 16+.  If studied full time it will take 1 year to complete.

National -  (level 3)  taken at 16+ in colleges or sixth forms and are equivalent to A levels. These can be taken alone or in combination with A levels over 1-2 years.

At each level of BTEC there are 3 qualifications types Award, Certificate and Diploma depending on the number of units studied. E.g. the BTEC National Award is equivalent in unit’s to 1 ‘A’ level, Certificate to 2 A levels and Diploma to 3 A levels.
